Cassie in the park in Richmond
Written on June 24th, 2024 by Pearl Ryder
A day in Richmond. A busy morning and quiet afternoon. Cassie awake early, lurching from bed to get her. Nursing her while I doze. “Other side, other side.” Then up for coffee and quick breakfast (Cheerios, bananas, milk) followed by bigger breakfast (oatmeal with the best strawberries we’ve had all year).
I was distracted for a lot of the morning and planned out a route for the day while Cassie entertained herself (or nursed). A tour of Richmond.

I was getting increasingly irritable before we took off but once we were going it felt so good to be on the bike. After some doughnuts, we found a playground pretty early. It felt weirdly empty but Cassie wanted to stop, so we did. She entertained herself for several minutes and I took care of some phone errands. Then I started running around and swinging and climbing and sliding. I wanted to move my body.

Once moving again, we found this weirdly nice street. The houses were saltboxes from the 50s but the trees were amazing.

Maymont park was manicured and peaceful. We routed around many stairs but we found the cows and goats.

Cassie didn’t last long after we finished up Maymont, so I cut the route short and brought her home for lunch. I cooked up extra veggies and enjoyed stir fry plus rice. And lots of cold watermelon.

Our afternoon was much much slower. I succumbed to the napping pull and slept through pretty much all of Cassie’s nap. Oh well. Then it was a slow wakeup. We tried to make it to the pool but were thwarted by thunderstorms. By that point, I was very disappointed. It’s hard to get enough solo out of the house time when I nap all afternoon. I went home and played guitar and sang and my spirits lifted. Maybe tomorrow I will be able to ride during her nap (and stay awake).
